How did you guys meet again?

Wednesday, January 05, 2005

Over this vacation, it seems that everyone kept asking the same question: “So how did you and Slim meet again?”

As it is, it’s quite an innocuous little story dealing with friends of friends and needing another person to round out the group of 5, but we have more fun just making things up. So far we have told people the following stories:

1. We met in a chat room about Christian beliefs. We ended up arguing the same point against a bunch of other antagonistic people.

2. We met playing Final Fantasy XI online. He always played a female sorcerer and i played a paladin. We always were in same party. I would tank and he would heal me. That was so thoughtful and sweet that I couldn’t help but get to know him better. After all, i, like the masses of other players out there, wondered if he was really a girl or a guy. All those posts on gaming boards devoted to determining the gender of his character really had me curious. So that’s how i got sucked in.

3. He was learning to surf with Keith, but he ate it really bad on one wave, but i saved him. (This is obviously for those who *don’t* know me seeing as how large bodies of water scared me to death).

The other ones include being at E3 and meeting (he was there for his company and i was working for Tecmo as a booth babe...hehehehe yeah, right) and meeting through Click2Asia’s speed dating events. I’m running out of ideas. Anyone got other ideas that I can use to tell his friends about how we met?

Boy Band Christmas

Tuesday, December 07, 2004

The deep shame and horror i am experiencing right now knows no words…

I’m listening to Christmas music that i downloaded (very legally of course smile) and somehow i got an N’sync Christmas song in there. Since it’s in the playlist with all the other Christmas songs, i found myself listening to it repeatedly...and liking it. Reminds me of Albie’s quote, “I felt dirty but i kinda liked it!” That pretty much sums up how i feel about that song.  Oh the shame…

What is "Police Activity" anyway?

Friday, December 03, 2004

The beginning of the holiday season must signal the beginning of the season for crime and “Police Activity!”

Police have been all busy routing traffic away from bus lines, parks, and subways all this week. Basically, it’s been everywhere the i’ve travelled this week. It’s like it’s following me...hehehe just kidding. But it has been kind of strange that all these “Police Activities” happening on my route have all happened in a span of about 3 days. I keep wondering what’s been happening. Police investigations, crime scenes, etc. Central Park was closed at 86th. What are people doing out there?

Are people just watching too much CSI New York? Does more commercialism during the holiday season drive people to criminal activity and insanity? Is it just that muggers are also looking for that “perfect” gift to steal for their loved ones? Or are police really into elaborate, traffic-causing practical jokes?

Oh and there was a fire in the apartments right across the street from me. There were so many firetrucks outside my front door! Residents huddled in blankets and big jackets as they watched their apartments ablaze. You could hear the tinkling of glass as the fire fighters smashed through glass to provide ventilation. It was not a pretty sight. Yeah, those people need prayer.

What a great way to start the holidays…

Blogging: a new genre of honesty

Thursday, November 04, 2004

So what is up with this need to share the most intimate details of one’s life through blogs? (said in a very Seinfeldian manner)

I have recently come upon some blogs that are so *very* personal that i ended up becoming enthralled with the development of these people’s lives over the course of multiple posts. They share things like personal pain/sorrow, things that torment them, their vulnerable spots like their fears of rejection from people that they will name specifically. It’s nutty!

Don’t get me wrong; i love reading these things. But writing them? This blog is my life and such, but i (forgive me for all of you who read this), THIS AIN’T ALL THAT PERSONAL. If you want personal, you still gotta pick up the phone and call me! What makes a person feel the need to express to the whole universe their feelings about Person X or how he cannot live in the misery that is his life because he has nothing to live for? Maybe i just answered my own question...hmmmm....

In any case, i find this phenomena peculiar. I suppose having a site that is my name really doesn’t leave much room for anonymity. I mean, do you *want* me to post that kinda stuff? Okay, here goes:

“My heart is full of desire...for less stress and good food. I feel vulnerable when i don’t have my homework done in time and my professor calls me out for not reading.”

Is that personal enough? I thought not....

MMO does not mean Mama's Marzipan Omelette or Mamoun's Mulleted Outfitters

Thursday, October 21, 2004

MMO is the shortened term for MMORPG which is short for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game - a term that i have never imagined would stand for anything concrete in my universe, but i suppose it’s time for a change of heart…

Despite trepidation, i’m thinking of playing World of Warcraft when it comes out. I’m afraid. I’m not a gamer. I don’t play games. But...this one seems very social. But i’m so inexperienced! I’m reading the incredibly detailed history that takes place in this game right now. It’s reeeeaaaaally long. i’m on paragraph 4. So i’m a slow reader! Gimme a break!

Anyway, I’m just letting the world know that i’m giving this deal a whirl. What does this mean for our hero(ine)? Will the mark the beginning of a glorious new era or a dark spiral into the sordid depths of the world of mmo addiction?

i’m scared. hold me!

Preparing "the Sexy"

Wednesday, October 13, 2004

What does that mean? Do people actually use that term? And why am i talking about it anyway?

To give you a bit of context, Dave, Eunice, Slim and I went to see a taping of Conan O’Brien last Friday afternoon. Who was the featured guest for the day? P.DIDDY! At some point, Conan asked Diddy about a rumor he had heard about Diddy’s habits when it came to hotel stays. Apparently the pull out all the stops for him - fresh flowers, a certain scent, bubble bath at exactly that right temperature...You know what he called it? “Preparing ‘THE SEXY.’” Who talks like that? Does he think that this is normal?

This man has people “prepare ‘the sexy’” for him.

So i was thinking about “preparing the sexy” for me: that would involve someone following me 24-7 with some kind of music generating system and some kind of clairvoyant foreknowledge of what would happen so that they could play for me my very own personal soundtrack wherever i went. THAT’s preparing the “sexy.” Oh yeah, and lots of coffee and chocolate littered in my path. Preferably Black Hound truffles and Starbucks Toffenut Mochas.

You know what? Forget about “preparing ‘the sexy.’” I think i’d rather just have “constant ‘sexy’” around me - maybe an entourage of some sort, my own makeup artist, fashion consultant, superhero with flying ability to take me to appointments, personal cook, etc. Oh and we can’t forget the backup dancers. You know, all the things a girl can expect. :D
