Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Sucks!
Tuesday, July 18, 2006
This is gonna be short.
My right wrist has been hurting. I think it’s the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome. *sad violin music playing* Even now, as i post, my wrist is ACHING and THROBBING. I gotta stop typing. And typing so FAST! (please see post below)
So you all will have to forgive me if my post isn’t too long today. Thanks.
Oh, and are there any ergonomists in the audience who can help me out?
Kat, my dear, you must REST your right hand. Try not to grip the steering wheel/cell phone/etc. with your right hand too much. Also, ice your wrist for 10-15 min. a day...I find that frozen veggie bags work best. And, take Advil if you need an anti-inflammatory.
Trust the pianist who used to work in an office! The ice WORKS! Oh, and don’t fold clothes. That’s actually the worst....so make Suz fold your laundry! ha!
Posted by on 07/18 at 10:18 PMhey hey! i have carpal tunnel symptoms too! how about this.. kat and i will save all of our laundry for your visit, and YOU can fold it for us!
Posted by on 07/19 at 12:19 PMAre you using your mouse a lot? That always happens to me. I finally switched to one of Leslie’s weird ergo thumb trackball mouses and that has helped a lot.
Also, get a good brace - that used to help me a lot too.
Posted by laura on 07/19 at 06:04 PMHey,
I have advice from the lovely Erica, PT in training:
When using the computer, place a pencil on one side of the keyboard. At the end of each typed sentence, transfer said pencil to the other side of the keyboard. Transfer pencil back and forth after every typed sentence.
Apparently, back when people had to use typewriters, the motion of sliding that bar-dinging-thingy-mabob every few seconds broke up any potentially harmful monotonous rhythm.
As for the laundry...Nathan is an excellent folder of clothes...=)

Since I seem to have this whole blog to myself, imagine my chortling when I found out yesterday that a movie version of “Atlas Shrugged” is “in talks”...with Brangelina cast as John Galt and Dagny (I think respectively). Even funnier, though, was the remark that Angelina Jolie would be a perfect cast due to her being an Ayn Rand fan. I’m laughing as I type this. As IF!
