Subject Matter: Marisa

With an expensive D-SLR in hand, you’d think I’d be taking pics of EVERYTHING, right? Wrong.
I’ve actually been quite the slacker. I’ve hardly taken any pics at all. Well, that’s not entirely true, but I definitely have not been getting out there to find new and interesting subjects. I do have some things that encourage me to get out there and shoot. My friend Rommel is my photographic partner in crime, and so far we’ve done one photoshoot of Long Beach at night. I’ll post a couple of those in the near future. Starting now, I’m more dedicated to exploring photography more actively.
In my hunt for new subject matter, I found my cousin Marisa. She’s 12 and at that age where watching America’s Next Top Model gets you thinking about whether or not you’re “model quality.” (Btw, “at that age” pretty much means 0 to 99--EVERY woman wants to be considered beautiful enough to be a model!) So I did her makeup and took some shots of her. It was kind of spur of the moment so we didn’t have too much by way of props, but I think they came out well.
What do you think?

Lovely pictures, as usual. Allan and I have a d80, too. How do you take pictures in low light? Our lens isn’t the best and we need EXPERT advise before we lose those precious photo moments with our growing baby boy.

Posted by Kat on 09/29 at 02:37 PMMarisa, you are gorgeous!
Kat, I especially love the first pool table shot - the light is perfect.
I’m really excited that you’re going to showcase some more photography! Maybe you should redo your site template into more of a photo blog. :D
Posted by laura on 09/29 at 03:17 PMWhoa! (In a Keanu way) Great photos! (BTW doesn’t it just sound better saying “photos” instead of “pictures”? Just more professional!) Anyways, Marisa looks fantastic! Awesome job you two! In a way, this makes me feel old because I remember when she was BORN!!
Posted by on 09/29 at 08:55 PMYou know Laura, I would love to change the website, but --*sheepishly*-- I’ve forgotten how to code my own website!
I’ve been trying to add a search bar and “prev” and “next” buttons for the longest time but I’m so scared to change things in case I break everything! LOL.
That’s what I get for leaving the web-design industry!
