Kick. Push. Coast.

I just bought a skateboard. I’m not sure why. I just wanted to.
The only problem is that i have no idea how to ride. Yeah, that’s right. NO IDEA. Anyone want to teach me? I’d love for someone to help me *not* crack my skull open. I don’t want to do anything fancy; just to ride and not fall off. No crazy aerials or anything.
Then Lennox sent me a link to Lupe Fiaso’s song, “Kick Push.” Just thought I’d share:
And please, somebody teach me how to coast!
that’s funny, cuz i was standing on a skateboard today asking my student how to do an ollie. which is crazy cuz i can’t even coast myself! hahahha… i’m thinking full helmet and guards on my knees and elbows are definitely needed!!!
Posted by kimi =) on 04/08 at 07:20 PMYou know what really makes me feel old. Watching Michael J. Fox coast around in Back to the Future. I had a friend in elementary school who bought that EXACT skateboard after the movie came out. But what really makes me feel geriatric is watching these kids around my apartment riding these new fandagled “RipStik Coasters / WAVE Street boards”. If you haven’t seen one, it’s a skateboard that has a pivot in the center, which makes the two halves rock back and forth. The insane lawsuit-in-the-making part is that each half only has ONE freakin’ WHEEL!! You’ve got to rock both halves back and forth to propel the board! When I watch the kids ride these things I think, “My word, if I even tried to stand on that thing I would at MINIMUM sprain one or two ankles, fracture a patella, get a black eye, sustain a concussion, and loose one testicle in the ordeal”. Really, if you haven’t seen one, go ask “the Google” for a sports store like Sports Authority and check out the skateboard section. It’ll make you wet yourself.
BTW, I’m not really old. Just immature.
P.S. Kat, you forgot the word “bought” in your first sentence. (^v^)Posted by on 04/09 at 10:10 PMyay! how fun.
we should go skate! what kind of board did you buy? i think this event calls for skate lessons at the beach! hehe. ive got several that are good for learning the feel for balance. we can also take pictures at the same time. but ya, for reals though! i think this sounds like a plan, no?
