Anger erupting on the streets of New York

I’ve heard many angry outbursts on the streets of NYC, but this one struck me as odd.
There was an middle-aged woman walking her french poodle up Broadway on the upper west side. They passed an Eddie Bauer. Despite the fact that there was an employee standing at the door greeting customers, the woman allowed the dog to pee on the door frame of the store. Then they just walked on as if nothing happened. The employee could only look on and smile in disbelief, as if he couldn’t believe that he really just saw that happen not two feet in front of him. He probably had proof of it on his shoes though.
A old man coming up from behind me witnessed the incident and looked at the employee and yelled, “Oh yeah, that’s GREAT!” in a New York accent that was dripping with sarcasm, so much so that you could almost feel the splats hit your face...or wait, was that just his spittle? In any case, the employee just smiled back at him wryly.
That was enough encouragement for the old man to verbally assaulted the woman.
“Why don’t you stick your dog in the street?!” he yelled at her.
“YOU should go in the street!” she shot back, vehemently.
“You dog makes me sick! If i saw your dog near my apartment, i’d kick it in the butt!” He screamed (using less nice terms, of course).
Me:... ‘-__-
They continued to squabble as i tried my best to ignore them.
Obviously, there is a lot to be angry about in New York. Dogs peeing. People kicking dogs. Being an employee of Eddie Bauer. No wonder New Yorkers are grumpy.
