Dad update

Monday, January 23, 2006

Since my post about my dad, a bit has happened, so here’s the update.

Last Wednesday, my dad was admitted to the hospital. He had some severe pain and HUGE things that looked like blood blister the size of an open hand all over his torso. My mom had been taking care of him at home full time with barely a moment to eat much less carry on a normal life. So to the hospital he went.

This was actually some respite from the amateur nursing for my mom and a much less painful existence for my dad. Once they plugged in the morphine, all was right with the world. I got back on Friday at around 2 a.m. and that morning, went in to see him. He seemed to be doing pretty well. Later that day, they took him in to surgery to clear the debris (necrotic skin tissue). They cleared out about a quarter of an inch, but the wound was deeper than that. He’ll go for another round until it’s cleared.

They’re also giving him treatment in the hyperbaric chamber, which is supposed to make him heal faster. Probably the most disturbing part about that is when they give him sedatives like Adavan that make him loopy. I had to restrain him from trying to escape from his bed to run away. It was a very exciting couple of minutes.

There have been many people to visit, and for that, I am very very greatful. Please keep continuing to pray for him. I’m not sure what’s supposed to happen next, but I’m hoping for miraculous heaing. Thank you all for your support!

  1. Good thing you were there to restrain your dad! I know a thing or two about dads being loopy in the hospital--hang in there.

We’re praying for you over here!
