Disaster of Disasters!...or is it?
Wednesday, December 15, 2004
Of course, since it’s that time of the semester where it’s all down to the wire, that’s *exactly* when everything goes wrong! And yet, maybe it’s not so bad...?
I posted earlier that i was working on a documentary about interracial relationships, right? So i’ve been working on this particular piece ALL semester. I’ve harrassed random park goers for their opinions, I’ve hunted down high school interracial couples and grilled them about their lives, flown back to Cali (well, not *just* for the interview but it sounds more dramatic if i put it this way) to interview my friends, and THEN WHAT HAPPENS? Clumsiness happens.
We had about 50+ gigs of captured video plus our Final Cut Pro file on there with NO BACKUPS. It’s really hard to back up 50 gigs of junx, really. Anyway, the way the lab at school is set up doesn’t allow for anything to be put in the back behind the computer. It has to all be in front. So the cords were hanging down to the floor, just *ripe* for the pulling! One of my partners in an office chair rolled away from the computer to look at something...and took the hard drive chord with it! SMACK! It hit the floor. Or as i like to put it, “took a flying leap off of the desk.”
We plugged it back in, thinking that, yes it was a hard hit, but surely it would still work, right? Hmmmm...there was no sound of spinning or anything. We tried several other things, but it all came out the same - it wasn’t mounting onto the desktop. :( After consulting a “specialist” it was confirmed that we had thoroughly killed our hard drive.
So here we are at the beginning of our project again. Luckily, we still have our original video tape. We only have to capture it again and re-edit and do everything all over again! But you know what? There is some good that has come out of all this.
A) I am not stressed at all about. This is a relatively new experience for me! I attribute it to God (I haven’t *really* stressed all quarter!) who is certainly giving me some kind of peace of mind!
B) Since there is no way we can have anything by tomorrow, we’re just going to take an incomplete and finish it without the stress and pressure of the final crunch!
C) Now i can sleep and get better instead of stressing and not sleeping and suppressing my immune system even more. So yay! I’m going to get better! And more sanitary! I feel so icky right now!
So all in all, even things that look like disasters are ok. I’m learning to let go, not be so high-strung, and just let Jesus be my peace. It’s been a great lesson to learn.
That’s just plain awesome.

“Do not be governed by the tyranny of the urgent.”
Ah, so true. Anyway, glad the good stuff keeps on rolling! Thanks Jesus, for everything.
