Ender’s Shadow—a tasty treat for my voracious reading appetite

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

I gotta say, it’s been a LONG LONG time since I’ve read anything.

This book by Orson Scott Card is a corollary to his very popular novel, “Ender’s Game." I think I was first introduced to this book by Bri, who said it was one of his favorite books. He even bought me copy. So I read it and really enjoyed. That was a couple of years ago.

Recently, Slim suggested that I read “Ender’s Shadow,” a corollary to “Ender’s Game.” Intrigued, I went out and bought the book. I spent the next two days reading constantly, trying my best not to read it at work. I was so engrossed. At a barbecue in Brooklyn, I basically ignored people for a good chapter or two until I felt guilty and had to mingle. Reading makes time on the subway go SO much faster than normal. And that way, with my iPod and my book, I really am in a different world where no one else can bother me.

I’ve made it through two books in about 4 days. I haven’t slept that much, but it sure was fun! I recommend these books to anyone who likes sci-fi and character analysis.  Check it out if you have time, while I start on the third book in the series.

  1. Oh man! I know what you mean, Kat. Leslie and I read the parallel series last summer. We basically just read ALL DAY LONG. It had been a long time since I’d read anything so engrossing.

I think that OSC is brilliant for being able to pull off another book telling the SAME story from a different perspective. The awesome thing is that it’s not at all the “same” story. He has such a tight grasp on his characters that they are constant, never slipping into each other.

    w00t!
