How much can i fit in one weekend?
Wednesday, November 03, 2004
This past weekend stretched my ability to pack in events into a short period of time (and i’m good at that!)
It just so happened that people were coming out to NYC, so of COURSE i gotta hang with them! Gordon made it out first. We saw a concert at the new Lincoln Center Jazz Theater. It’s sooo cool! The show we saw was called “Let Freedom Swing!” There were a ton of famous people narrarating freedom/human rights speeches played with great jazz witih the composers sitting in the audience! Morgan Freeman was first, followed by TV personalities that i have no clue about, then Glenn Close, and some other people i don’t know. But they’re famous. Really.
Saturday was the real marathon. I made it to church at a decent hour (which has been an issue recently...) and left prompty after the service (which was 1:30pm by then) to meet up with Stephan, Shawna, and Mr. and Mrs. Sherman.
They even picked me up in a CAR! Woot! Haven’t been in one of those for awhile! AND they took me to great yummy CHEAP barbecue! Sweeeeet chickeny goodness. Seriously, it was such a good deal. Early bird 2-for-1 meals were $9 and included 2 soups and 2 half-chicken meals plus side orders like rice or potatoes. INSANE! CHEAP FOOD IN NEW YORK? Unheard of! Thanks Sherman Family!
And then i got to use Stephan and Shawna. That’s right, i USED ‘em! Took video of them for my project. I was basically panicking because my iTV project is due way too soon for my liking. And have i started filming yet? Well, as of this weekend, YES.
It was so good seeing the Mr. and Mrs. Sherman. I haven’t seen Mrs. Sherman for over a year and Mr. Sherman for years and years. But in true Sherman family fashion, i was adopted right in again like i never missed a beat.
After that i met up with Gordon again for dinner and Bombay Dream! Woohoo! That musical was so much fun! And had eunuchs that looked like women! What an odd cast. But the dancing was awesome, the comedy so self-aware, it was great! Go see it if you want to be entertained by people with cool accents and awesome costumes that are totally extravagant.
But wait! There’s more! My dance studio was also out here for an international Arthur Murray dance competition. And it was only a block away from the theater! So i snuck over there and got in with no problem at all, just in time to see my instructor, Tavio dancing with the other teacher Katrina in a semi-final rhythm dance heat. I even got to see my first instructor Tommy! I even got to dance a fox trot and a salsa with Tavio between heats.
By the time i left it was a little past midnight. So i called up Jannine who was having a housewarming/halloween party. Was it still going? YES! AND there was still food (which was key). So trekked up there and partook (is that a word?) of PUMPKIN CHILLI! mmmmmmmmm yummy. If you have never tried it, you need to fly Jannine over to your house to cook it. Yum. It’s literally chilli that’s cooked in a hollowed-out pumpkin.
By the time i left, it was about 3 am with the new adjusted time (so 4 am effectively). But i stayed up til 5:30 anyway. Go figure.
I’m tired just writing this.
Needless to say, it was a pretty dull time. Ho hum, just a normal weekend in NYC. (just kidding!)
AND you managed to take some reference pics for me. thanks again for the help. i’ll post some screen shots of the level when i have it halfway done.
