HIP-HOP HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sunday, January 01, 2006

We made it to Times Square without the 8-hour wait in the cold!

Kimi is visiting. She wanted to go to Times Square so bad, but I kept saying, “NO WAY. It’s way too cold and you have to stand there for 8 hours in the cold without the ability to move or go to the bathroom!” The only way we’d go, i said, was to find someone that had an apartment there where we could wait away from the freezing night. The chances? Slim to none. She sighed in resignation, but agreed that we would go to Brooklyn for their fireworks.

A day before the Big Apple was set to drop, i got a text from my friend Justin. He wrote, “Do you have plans for New Years? My brother has an aparment on Times Square.” We were so excited! And so was Susan, who had no choice but be dragged along with us but would much prefer being dragged into a mostly warm place rather than a freezing cold 8-hour standing situation.

We made it alive past the crush of people pushing against the barricades and past the police officers with stinky attitudes (but who can blame them!). We also managed to take pictures with random people, dance and scream “Happy New Year!” with other strangers, and exchange emails with random people via digi-cam videos. It was all very surreal. It’s the time for everyone to be open and loving!

We had a great time there, hanging out with new friends and old ones. Here are some pics. Oh, and

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. That is SO awesome! I’m so glad you got to have your ball-droppin’, rockin’ New Year’s Eve, albeit without Dick Clark.

  2. I’m so envious!  I’m glad you guys had fun; how could you leave New York without doing that at least once, Kat?
