I love dystopian futures!

Thursday, December 08, 2005

It seems that the future is never as bright and shining as we hope.

Right now, we are in an age of the media prosumer--that is, where everyone produces and consumes media. We’re not really sure who is reading/viewing our stuff or why, but we keep creating it. And we keep looking at each others’ stuff. And we build our world views based on the information that we intake from these various sources. With a plethora of opinion and not-so-solid fact, our current tools are used for an interesting form of data collection and processing. It makes you think a lot about where you get your information and why you believe it and what really sticks in your mind (even the untrue stuff, once read and far off in the past, can be hard to distinguish from the what you recognize as truth).

This site has a short movie about the future of media in 2014. It’s very interesting, compelling, and a little frightening. It begs the question: is what i think i want what i really want?
