Munchkin Parade

There were so many of them. And so small!
On Halloween, at around 3:30 in the afternoon, a couple hundred people toting small yodas, pirates, Nemos, skeletons and princesses gathered in Washington Sq. Park for the annual Munchkin Parade. (It’s not actually called that, but it really *looked* like that!) I took a study break and watched them as a line of bagpipe players, dressed to the hilt in Halloweeny gear, began to toot their pipes. Just as if they were the pied pipers apprentices, the kids began to follow behind them. They went around the park about three times before disbanding, reading to go about the city pillaging it for all the candy they could get their hands on.
It was followed by the Halloween Parade, which is BY FAR not nearly as cute as the afternoon parade. It really is just an excuse for people to act and dress as weirdly as possible. One of my friend from Japan, who had never celebrated Halloween in the U.S. (much less New York style), was attacked by a guy in a gollum mask. She screamed bloody murder! Yeah, he got her heart pounding for a bit. She really had no idea what to expect. I, on the other hand, realized at that moment that i have ZERO reflexes: I didn’t even flinch and it wasn’t because i was so cool and collected. As a side note, the best adult costume that i saw was a couple dressed as 3 strips of bacon and a sunny-side-up egg. Awesome.
Anyway, here are some pics of the kids parade. :D
Ye bagpipes of DOOOM!
This one looks hand made. Wooooo.
This one is my absolute favorite: Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat!
