Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

This old dog came rolling home.

*Disclaimer: I do not usually find events such as the following usually very humorous. Nothing was done intentionally to promote the incident for purposes of entertainment.

My last post was about my dog, Toby, who is now patient number 2. In addition to all the other health issues he has, he is also *mostly* blind. We had our doubts. I mean, he would walk into walls and bonk his head on stuff, but it wasn’t all the time. Sometimes he would navigate quite well through the maze of table legs and chairs. Yesterday totally PROVED that he is blind enough to need a seeing-eye dog of his own!

My dad was half snoozing upstairs, and I was there using the computer there too, so I brought Toby up so he wouldn’t be lonely (as he often does). All was good for the following hour, but then he got restless and started wandering around. We just watched as he poked around. He headed for the stairs, which made me worry at first, but then i recalled that just that morning, he had made it down most of the stairs by himself. So i put my worries away and let him explore a bit more.

...But just in case i got up to follow him. And JUST AT THAT MOMENT, Toby took one wrong step down the stairs and started to roll! I watched in horror and he first went headlong but then started to roll like a sausage all the way to the first floor! He didn’t even have time to make a sound.

thump!
thump!
thump!

And then he was landed on the bottom floor with his legs sticking straight up in the air! I rumbled down the stairs and scooped him up. His heart was beating so fast! I checked for damage and other broken bones, but all seemed ok.

And then I laughed. Laughed and laughed and laughed. snake

Not out of cruelty, but I couldn’t help it! It looked so funny! Am I wrong? Or am I simply looking on “the bright side of life?”

BTW, Toby is fine. No animals were *severely* harmed in the making of this post.

  1. No, I don’t think you’re being cruel-minded to laugh. It’s honestly very funny. And with everything that’s going on in your life right now, you NEED some humor to get through it! Maybe Toby sacrificed his body for the sake of your sanity! Go Toby! What a noble dog. smile

  2. That’s absolutely hilarious but I’m really glad Toby is okay. Our dogs go charging down the stairs to the basement and I always fear that they’ll stumble and break something on the way down.

  3. Poor dog.  I remember him from his younger and healthier days…
