The Art of the Kimono

Wednesday, April 05, 2006

Let’s just say, it’s an art that I’m not doing so well at learning.

Last weekend was international Sabbath. It’s always a fun day at church because everyone dresses up in their cultural garb. This is my one chance to wear a kimono. I can’t wear it without the help of my mom to help me put it on. Those things are impossible! So many layers, ropes and ties, but in the end, the result is worth it. The only problem is that my kimono is actually my mom’s, who is about 3 or 4 inches shorter than me. My feet are bigger, I’m taller and I have a bigger butt. Altogether that results in me not fully fitting into the kimono *quite* right.  red face  I guess i can only hope that no one noticed.

Here are some pics:

I just watched Memoirs of a Geisha with Kimi the other day, and those kimono are so awesome and so artistically shot that I really want to get my own someday. I have no idea how much it will cost, or how often I’ll get to wear it, but it’s something i’ve always wanted. Anyone want to help me make this dream come true? Please send all money gifts via paypal, thanks! ha ha ha cool grin

  2. I want to get one for Yoko too, but… wait a minute, we *are* in Japan, huh?  Hmm.

Anyway, neither she nor her sister know how to wear one either, so feel ye not bad, O Kat of the Kimono.

How was the movie?  We haven’t seen it, and I’m not sure what folks here thought of it.
