Yes, I know what it sounds like, but what I *mean* is that I voted in the presidential primaries IN PERSON today!

So what’s the big deal about voting in person, you ask? For some reason, there has always been just enough of a barrier that I haven’t gone in person to vote. Or some unpredicted event prevented me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve voted absentee a lot, but that’s not quite the same. And you don’t get the happy sticker saying, “I Voted!”

I have a seriously bad track record for things going South with my attempts to vote, really. There are times I’ve registered and called to confirm where I supposed to vote, but find that I’m mysteriously *not* registered. I’ve gotten the absentee ballot too late to return in time. I’ve *thought* I registered and hadn’t. And on top of all that, I’ve been privy to living with a raving Republican who made me loathe politics with all my might.

Honestly, I just never felt like I knew enough about anything to really make an informed decision. So it’s pretty nuts that TODAY is the first time vote at a polling booth and do the whole paper ballot thing and punch out holes and tell the world who I want to vote for! (but all in secret of course) All thanks to NPR! I’ve been listening to 89.3 KPCC and their election coverage for about 8 months now, and I seriously feel more informed than I EVER have in my life! (My ignorance of current events up to this point is only ironic because I was once a history major in college and professed my interest in current event and the workings of the world.)

Voting was strangely exhilarating! I’ve done my civic duty! I’m an involved citizen! Feel free to pat me on the back if you see me today! ;)
